The Alchemist emerges from his hermetic laboratory to deliver a follow-up to 2017’s celebrated “Arcane Sanctuary“. “Laboratory Amongst the Leaves” sees The Alchemist return to his lo-fi, long-form, nostalgia-inducing dark ambient sound. This is the avant-garde of dark ambient and medieval-inspired music. This album is both linear and devoid of any beginning, middle, or end. The Alchemist continues on in the vein of long-form dark ambient music bordering on ritualistic drone but with a distinct sensation of comfort and whimsy. Find yourself mesmerized, falling into a sun-drenched yesteryear, wandering a bucolic country-side or kneeling to drink from a babbling stream. This work is to be absorbed while journeying, immersed in the warmth and subtle “fuzziness” of the synth notes that never fail to conjure yellowing memories of simpler times. Pro-tape with artwork by the inimitable Sivanna Massa. Each copy shipped with a tiny mortar and pestle charm.
